چکیده

Knowledge of the probable outcome after myocardial infarction (MI) is important in formulating an appropriate plan of management, as with ST elevation MI versus non-ST elevation MI (non-Q-wave MI). The following information on risk stratification is relevant to decision making. Acute MI in-hospital mortality is about 12–14% (Table 2.1.). Several characteristics alter the in-hospital and postdischarge mortality:

Reflex and Tonic Autonomic Markers for Risk Stratification in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Surviving Acute Myocardial Infarction

OBJECTIVE Diabetic postinfarction patients are at increased mortality risk compared with nondiabetic postinfarction patients. In a substantial number of these patients, diabetic cardiac neuropathy already preexists at the time of the infarction. In the current study we investigated if markers of autonomic dysfunction can further discriminate diabetic postinfarction patients into low- and high-r...

The effects of curcumin on the prevention of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and heart failure in patients with unstable angina: A randomized clinical trial

Objective: Inflammation along with oxidative stress has an important role in the pathophysiology of unstable angina which leads to acute myocardial infarction, arrhythmias and eventually heart failure. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects and thereby, it may reduce cardiovascular complications. This randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effects of curcumin on t...

Influence of age on the relation between heart rate variability, left ventricular ejection fraction, frequency of ventricular extrasystoles, and sudden death after myocardial infarction.

AIMS To examine the influence of age on the prediction of sudden death after acute myocardial infarction based on heart rate variability (HRv), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and the frequency of ventricular extrasystoles. BACKGROUND Autonomic and left ventricular function and the frequency of ventricular extrasystoles change with age but the influence of age on the prediction of ...

Thoracic spinal cord stimulation reduces the risk of ischemic ventricular arrhythmias in a postinfarction heart failure canine model.

BACKGROUND Thoracic spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a promising therapy in treating refractory angina. This study was designed to investigate SCS with regard to the risk of arrhythmias during myocardial ischemia and its cardiac electrophysiological effects. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied 22 dogs with healed anterior myocardial infarction (MI) and superimposed heart failure (HF) induced by ra...
